Collaborate with police to secure schools – AIG Ammani urges stakeholders

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone One Headquarters, Kano, AIG Ahmed Ammani, has called on educational authorities and community leaders to collaborate with security agencies to strengthen school safety across the country.
This was contained in a statement signed by CSP Bashir Muhammad, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, on Thursday.

According to the statement, Ammani, who represented the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, at the Nigeria Police Force Stakeholders’ Forum on Security of Schools and the Training of the School Protection Squad in Jigawa State, emphasized the collective responsibility required to protect educational institutions.

The AIG revealed that schools play a crucial role in national development and must be safeguarded from threats.

“Our schools are not only sanctuaries of knowledge but also nurturing grounds for the future leaders of our country. This means that the security of our schools determines the security of our future. Therefore, they must be protected against all possible threats.”

He further disclosed that he had directed all Commissioners of Police within the zone to engage relevant stakeholders in discussions aimed at ensuring the safety of schools.

“In light of the foregoing, I have instructed all Commissioners of Police in the zone to hold meetings with stakeholders to guarantee the safety of our schools,” he stated.

“It is imperative that educational authorities and community leaders work hand in glove with the police and other security agencies to ensure that our schools are fortified against any potential threats. As we launch the School Protection Squad, we mark a significant stride towards an all-inclusive approach to school safety.”

As part of the initiative, he revealed that training programs would be introduced for educators, administrators, and security personnel.

“These training will equip them with the necessary skills to recognize and respond to security threats,” he added.

He also assured that modern technology and intelligence-led policing would be leveraged to enhance security around schools.

Ammani urged schools, parents, and communities to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to foster a safer learning environment.

“We must invest our efforts, resources, and hearts into creating a culture of safety in our schools,” he concluded.
