Gov Bala reaffirms commitment to religious equality in Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring religious equality, emphasizing that both Muslims and Christians must have equal rights in the state.

Governor Mohammed made this statement during a condolence visit to Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the Government House in Jos.

The visit was to express sympathy over the passing of Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni and the Second National Deputy Chairman of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Hassan Saeed Jingir.

While speaking with Governor Mutfwang, Mohammed defended his government’s policy of constructing and refurbishing churches in Bauchi, underscoring that it is a fundamental right of Christian citizens.

“You renovated a mosque as the governor of Plateau State, but that has never been done before. It may look very small, but that is what we are doing in Bauchi. We build churches. We renovate churches because it is their right. They are also citizens of the state,” Governor Mohammed stated.

Reflecting on the loss of Sheikh Jingir, the governor described him as a highly respected Islamic cleric whose impact on the Muslim community would be deeply felt.

“Sheikh Hassan Saeed Jingir was an Islamic scholar that Islam and the entire Muslim Ummah will miss. I did listen to his preachings, and he came to Bauchi for teachings. We enjoyed him during his time. He has done well for the propagation of Islam for years. We will continue to remember him,” he said.

Governor Mohammed also praised Governor Mutfwang’s leadership style, commending him for fostering an inclusive administration and pledging Bauchi’s continued support.

“We appreciate the work you are doing and your all-inclusive government. We have been hearing that you are carrying everybody along, and we are happy about that. As your neighbor, we will continue to tell people the good things you are doing. What touches Plateau also touches us,” he added.
