Kano govt orders verification of March salary before payment

NGOs genuinely serving public good should have no concerns regarding profiling – Integrity Group

The Kano State Government has directed civil servants to validate their salaries for March before payment.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Faruk Umar Ibrahim, announced the measure on Monday while addressing journalists in Kano.

He explained that the decision was prompted by complaints from workers about deductions and irregularities in their January and February salaries.

“To ensure transparency and fairness in salary payments, all civil servants have been instructed, through their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), to verify the salaries credited to their names and report any discrepancies,” Ibrahim stated.

To facilitate the process, he said, salary lists would be displayed at strategic locations within MDAs and the secretariats of all 44 local government areas in the state.

The government has also set up a committee to oversee the verification exercise. According to Ibrahim, “The committee, headed by the Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, has been mandated to fast-track the process to ensure workers receive their March salaries on time.”

Acknowledging the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration, he reassured civil servants that the government was committed to timely salary payments.

“We understand the importance of this period, and we are making every effort to ensure that workers receive their salaries before the celebration,” he added.

Ibrahim further assured that the verification exercise would not disrupt government activities in MDAs and local government secretariats, as necessary measures had been put in place to prevent any operational delays.
