Lands director denies targeting PDP in massive FCT land revocation, lists affected properties

Impeachment: I won’t stop Rivers Assembly from performing their duties – Wike

The Director of Lands in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chijioke Nwankwoeze, has dismissed claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that two of its properties were revoked in a targeted political move.

Speaking to journalists, Nwankwoeze clarified that out of the 4,974 land titles revoked, only Plot Number 243 in the Central Area belongs to the PDP.

He denied allegations that the exercise was aimed at the party, explaining that the other property used as the PDP Secretariat does not actually belong to the party but to Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi, who purchased it from Wadata Enterprises Nigeria Limited.

Regarding outstanding payments, he revealed that the PDP owes ₦7,603,504.31 in unpaid ground rent for its Central Area property, covering a period of 20 years.

He also disclosed that Senator Samaila Mamman Kurfi has an outstanding ground rent of ₦2,848,173.36 for Plot No. 1970, Wuse I (Wadata Plaza), accumulating over 28 years.

Among the affected 4,974 land titles are properties owned by several government institutions, including the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), the Borno State Government, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the Kaduna State Government.

Other government agencies affected include the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, the University of Calabar, the Nigerian Postal Service, and the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

Beyond government-owned institutions, thousands of private individuals and businesses were also impacted by the revocation.
