The Ogun State Police Command on Friday reported that a yet-to-be-identified rider of a yellow Quic motorcycle was killed in a road accident in front of the NNPC Filling Station along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibafo, Ogun State.

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, stated this in a statement made available to DAILY POST in Abeokuta, the state capital.

According to the statement, the fatal accident occurred at about 9:30 pm on Thursday.

Odutola explained that the rider was travelling at high speed when he struck a culvert next to the petrol station, causing the motorcycle to catch fire and burn completely.

The statement reads: “The Divisional Police Officer of Ibafo has reported a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred on 20 March 2025, at about 9:30 p.m. in front of the NNPC Filling Station along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibafo, Ogun State.

“The accident involved a yellow Quic motorcycle (registration number unknown) and resulted in the instant death of the rider, whose identity is yet to be established.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the motorcyclist was travelling at high speed when he crashed into a culvert near the filling station. The impact led to the motorcycle catching fire and being completely burnt.”

She noted that emergency responders, including officers from the Motor Traffic Police, MOTOPOL unit, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation, and the corpse was deposited at Real Divine Hospital Mortuary, Ibafo.

The statement added that the burnt motorcycle has been recovered to the police station for safekeeping and further inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office.

The command warned motorcyclists and other road users to adhere strictly to speed limits and road safety regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.
