UK-based Nigerian woman reveals her Caucasian widowed neighbor plans to marry her visiting mother

A Nigerian woman in the UK has raised concerns as her mother, who initially came to assist with her newborn, is now preparing to marry a widowed Caucasian neighbor.

The woman shared her story in a detailed statement online, expressing her dilemma over her mother’s intentions.

According to the woman, her mother arrived in the UK to help with her newborn but soon grew close to a neighbor, a widower, who has shown interest in marrying her and is working to arrange her immigration paperwork.

The mother, now unwilling to return to Nigeria, has told her daughter she is ready to stay and start a new life with him.

The woman’s post, shared anonymously, reveals the complexities of the situation. She explained that her father has been difficult throughout their marriage and has several children outside their family.

Despite his recent health issues, her mother had been his caregiver, leaving him temporarily to assist her daughter with the baby, with plans to return in February.

“My sisters, there’s trouble!” she wrote. “My mother came to the UK to help me with my newborn. My father, like the typical African man, has always been harsh and difficult. He has three children outside our family and was known for his affairs. Recently, he’s been struggling with health issues, and my mother has been caring for him. She only left to help me with my newborn, planning to return in February.”
Living in a predominantly white neighborhood, her mother met the widowed neighbor, who quickly captured her affection. “This man is so different from my father,” she continued. “He brings her flowers, organizes picnics, writes her love letters, and even joins us for church. He’s been teaching her to read, and his children are thrilled to see their father happy again. My mother has stopped taking my father’s calls and says she’s not planning to return.”

The neighbor has hired an immigration lawyer and expressed his intention to marry her mother.

The woman noted that her siblings back in Nigeria are pressuring her to send their mother home to be with their father. However, she feels conflicted. “I’ve never seen her this happy and fulfilled—she looks twenty years younger. What should I do?”

The post quickly attracted a flurry of comments from concerned individuals, each offering opinions on the woman’s difficult situation.

See some reactions below:

@MaryAkinola15: “This is crazy… how can she not be disciplined enough to caution the mum and let it all play out until this point? Oyinbo dey bring flowers u no tell am say she is married and going back to her husband which is ur dad in naija. Abeg getat!”

@0neCHAD: “Like mother like daughter, if na me be her husband I go first do DNA test on the new born, to be sure cos you can’t trust people that move this way.”

@xpiritk: “Exactly…. imagine if it was the father that did the same, she wouldn’t have said, “But I’d never seen my father so settled”…. again, we all know what we’re doing. A woman is always a woman. Periodt!”

@mensahtitus5: “The husband of the lady whose mom showed up in the UK should be wary. They could be a pattern someday. What level of disloyalty and dishonesty is that?”

@JannyAdiaha: “Uhmm. My late father had children outside, he got sick, HIV transmitted to my late mom. But even on his sick bed my mom never left she was there till he died and she wept so bitterly. He didn’t tell her about his diagnosis she found out when she started getting sick.”

@ukayasiegbu: “Hmmm! You and your Mama sha… Your mama was never settled for the many years she lived with your Papa? Ok o.”
